2 Chronicles 32:7-8 and 2 Chronicles 32:22-23 NIV
7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. 8 With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.
22 So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all others. He took care of them on every side. 23 Many brought offerings to Jerusalem for the Lord and valuable gifts for Hezekiah king of Judah. From then on he was highly regarded by all the nations.
2 Chronicles reminds me of Yolanda Adams singing “The Battle is not Yours, it’s the Lords.” Because let’s be real, life is truly just a series of battles - and we have the victory in Jesus.
I’m just amazed the more that I sit comfortably in seeing God and His character - but also the realization that, spiritual warfare exists all around us….It’s deep, deep when you consider it. But much like King Hezekiah, if we give our concerns, our troubles, our battles, the situations to Jesus, we can trust that He will defend us and gain us the victory in Him. Our confidence is in Him - we have to be strong and courageous, unafraid EVEN THOUGH it seems that the enemy is greater than us…the enemy will be scattered.
Psalms 73:23-26 NIV
23 Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. 24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
A psalm I’m keeping in my heart. Scripture to speak over yourself when you need an anchor.
Psalms 78:32 NIV
“In spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of his wonders, they did not believe.”
I definitely don’t want to be that person with eyes that can’t see and ears that can’t hear! Picture this: going through tough seasons in the wilderness, dealing with discomfort and oppression, and riding the sin-and-redemption rollercoaster—only to be rescued by God and then somehow end up in the same pit again. I just can’t wrap my head around it. Whenever I read about the Israelites, I’m over here shouting, “What are y’all even doing!?” You just can’t make this stuff up! Yet, despite it all, God still loves them. It’s incredible! And then God sent His only Son to save us from sin and death—mind-blowing! We serve such a good, gracious, merciful, powerful God.
