GraceNotes - My Reflections

Joshua 22:5 NIV

But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

I am not keeping a tally of the amount of times this charge is spoken in the Bible, but it’s clear that these commandments are of the greatest importance. We have seen time and time again — from Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob, to Moses to now Joshua the importance of loving the Lord your God, being obedient to him, keeping his commands, holding fast and serving him. I will say time and time again, I have known God my entire life but was unchanged until about seven or so years ago, and changing was the key! It’s so much easier to just follow God and His word, because even when life is difficult, I’m holding fast to the fact that He loves me, has chosen me and vice versa. This is the key.

Proverbs 16:3 NIV

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

A daily reminder that His will, not mine, be done. I am a planner and I am Type A — the true symptom of being a first born, okay!? But submitting my plans to God, and allowing His favor to flow out over my plans has been a game changer. I don’t know about you all, but doing things just because I want to do them but not consulting with our Father God has hurt me in more ways than one — talk about seasons of wilderness and going the long way — but I can truly say when I give it to God, my plans, the desires of my heart and all of the above, it all shakes out!

Judges 6

Gideon. Why? I was reading through this story wondering what happened to the faith that is the true definition of “things not seen?” It took too many times for Gideon to just trust that God’s word is true. HOWEVER, I won’t lie and say that there have not been seasons in my life where I did the same thing — and that’s where we build character. By discerning God’s voice and trusting that He is Who He says He is and we are who He says we are.
