GraceNotes - My Reflections

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

I was recently reminded that when you fear the Lord, no other fear matters. And I’m not saying fear God in a “boogyman” type of way - I’m saying this in the regard of respecting him with all honor — the type of respect that stops you from straying from His will. On a personal note, I have found myself at such peace as we have been reading through the Bible these past three months because I’m consciously meditating on the Word day in and out, constantly in His presence. And when you’re there — there’s nothing to fear, nothing else matters.

Joshua 3:15-16

Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing.

In Joshua 3, the Jordan River symbolized a “setback” for the Israelites. Y’all know how as adults we’re realizing, IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING?? Yeah, well, the Jordan was the always something for them. The Israelites could literally see the promises of the Lord waiting just beyond this obstacle — but they had to trust that God is a good God who does not lie, does not fail and never lets the righteous be forsaken. Whatever your “Jordan” is, trust that God will make a way to get you to the promise.
