Reflections

  • Can you remember a time when God was gracious although you felt you didn’t deserve His kindness?

  • How has God’s compassion toward you taught you to be compassionate toward others?

  • Sometimes trust can be a hard thing. What hard thing in your life will you trust God to do?

Judges 16:17-22 NIV

17 So he told her everything. “No razor has ever been used on my head,” he said, “because I have been a Nazirite dedicated to God from my mother’s womb. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man.” 18 When Delilah saw that he had told her everything, she sent word to the rulers of the Philistines, “Come back once more; he has told me everything.” So the rulers of the Philistines returned with the silver in their hands. 19 After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him. 20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. 21 Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding grain in the prison. 22 But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved

We are all extremely familiar with the story of Samson and Delilah, but after the reading this — it came with fresh eyes. Not because of “women being the fall of man,” or “Delilah being the worst woman to exist,” or whatever we want to call it, but because, “the hair on his hand head began to grow again after it had been shaved.” Verse 22 truly screamed out at me because God is a God of second chances; and our God, MY GOD, will restore the righteous and never forsake them. I thought about the times that I allowed the world to draw me from myself, similarly to Samson breaking down and telling Delilah how to take his strength from him — and consequently, how the Lord restored me to fullness every time I fell by the wayside. God is good, God is great.

Psalms 27:1 NIV

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalms 34:19 NIV

“The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all;”
