Acts 22:15
For you will be his witness to everyone of what you have seen and heard.
In this moment, Paul’s being given a mission with serious weight. God isn’t asking him to just know Jesus personally—He’s calling him to share it. And think about it: Paul’s story isn’t pretty or perfect. He was once the guy who chased down Christians, trying to shut down everything he’s now standing up for. Yet God doesn’t care about his past failures; He cares about how Paul can use his story, messy and real as it is, to reveal His grace and power.
This call to be a witness is a reminder that our lives, every high and low, are part of the message. We’re not called to be spiritual gatekeepers with our faith, choosing when to share or only giving out the polished, Insta-ready details. Instead, we’re supposed to be living, breathing examples of what God can do in imperfect people. And yes, this can be intimidating—witnessing isn’t just about standing on a stage or preaching sermons; it’s letting God’s love and transformation shine through in the real-life stuff.
When you think of it, it’s kind of like God is saying, “I know your past, I know your journey, and that’s exactly why I want you sharing this story.” Paul’s mission to witness is actually a gift to himself too—a reminder that he’s forgiven, redeemed, and chosen. For us, this means that even our rough edges, our regrets, and our hardest moments can be part of something beautiful if we let God take the lead. It’s as if God is calling each of us to own our stories and say, “This is who I was, and this is who God’s making me.” And that’s the kind of witnessing the world needs—honest, humble, and full of grace.
Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
This verse is one of those “pause and let it sink in” moments. God tells Jeremiah that before he was even a thought in his parents’ minds, He already knew every detail, every strength, and every flaw Jeremiah would carry. There was purpose and calling woven into his being from day one. And Jeremiah, who’s young and feels unqualified, might not even fully believe it yet—but God is saying, “You’re exactly who I need, just as you are.”
It’s wild when you think about it: God’s telling us the same thing. In a world where we’re constantly trying to prove ourselves, reinvent ourselves, or “glow up” into someone new, God’s saying He knew us and loved us long before any of that. The gifts we’re hesitant to use, the qualities we might even wish were different, are exactly what God saw when He envisioned His plan for us. There’s no need to be anyone else; God doesn’t make us “just to blend in”—He sets us apart with purpose.
Reflecting on this, it’s humbling but also empowering. It’s as if God’s whispering, “I’ve placed something in you that’s only yours to bring to this world.” And yes, it may feel heavy, even a little intimidating. But just like Jeremiah, we’re not alone. God’s the one who appoints, equips, and walks with us, flaws and all. So maybe we don’t need to wait for the perfect moment or the perfect version of ourselves to step out in faith—God’s already done the work of setting us apart. It’s our job to show up, embrace it, and let Him guide the rest.
