GraceNotes - My Reflections

“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58 NIV)

And just like that, I’m standing with Moses at the burning bush when Jesus drops this truth bomb. It’s a moment that stops me in my tracks, the gravity of this revelation hitting me like a ton of holy bricks. The realization that Jesus is Lord—it’s grounding in the truest sense. To know that He is the great I AM, no qualifiers, no add-ons, just that—it's enough for me. It’s as if He’s saying, “I am who I am, and that’s the whole story.” And honestly? That’s more than enough.

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27 NIV)

There is truly nothing like being wrapped up in God's perfect peace. It's the kind that makes no sense, the kind that shows up when life feels like it's doing its best impression of a roller coaster—loop-de-loops and all. It doesn’t matter what’s spinning out of control: our lives, the world, our uncertain futures. What matters is that we have the victory because Jesus already overcame it all. So why stress? Why let anything trouble us when we have His peace? It’s like Jesus is handing us a gift, saying, “Here, take this peace—I’ve got the rest covered.” All we need to do is accept it.

16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. (John 15:16 NIV)

I’m constantly amazed that Jesus chose *me*, that He loves *me*, that He actually wants *me.* As we journey through the Bible, I’m starting to see it: it doesn’t matter who you used to be. What matters is who God says you **ARE**! Look at Matthew: he was a tax collector nobody liked, but he was chosen. Peter? Basically a thug, yet he became a leader of the faith. Jacob was a liar, but God turned him into the father of Israel. Jonah was stubborn and prideful but still ended up saving a whole city. Solomon? Let’s just say he had a thing for the ladies, yet he was the wisest and richest man ever. Moses? A murderer who led God's people out of slavery. Mary was a young, unmarried virgin, but she became the mother of the King of Kings. Paul literally hunted Christians, but then God flipped the script, and he became one of Jesus’ greatest missionaries.

And me? I might have been a little “loose as a goose, don’t get me started,” but God is teaching me how to be the seasoning salt in this world. Many of us have a past that makes us cringe, but God’s grace overrides all of that. We were made in His image. So, let’s look in the mirror and start seeing ourselves the way He does.

Stop defining yourself by who you *were.* Instead, tap into the reality that you are a joint heir to God’s kingdom and part of a royal priesthood. Believe you are exactly who He says you are, and believe that He chose you - because He did.
