GraceNotes - My Reflections

Psalm 1

The Psalmist jumps right in letting believers know what will make us “blessed.” There are dos and don’ts that give us clarity on how to be blessed/happy as it pertains to our lives; firstly noting that we as believers should not 1. walk with the wicked 2. stand in the way that sinners take and 3. sit in the company of mockers. All of these three directives are important for us to follow, but I felt the most conviction in “sitting in the company of mockers.” I think in the “media” age we live in, it’s so easy for us to look at everyone’s lives with judgement because it appears that everyone is so open with the things that they are going through, have or have not and so on. Judgement seems to lead to comparison, or even stem from comparison at its core, and it’s so necessary to avoid mocking/judging/comparison because it leads to a path of unhappiness and separation from our Lord and Savior.

Psalm 3:5; Psalm 4:8

One thing yall know is I take my sleep serious… but there are seasons that I struggle with peace. The day to day can get crazy. Wearing the hats of being a wife, a mom, a colleague, a friend, a sister, a daughter, a this and a that will truly weigh any of us down. BUT I’m learning (really even through this Bible study) to just give it all to God and relax. I mentioned a few weeks ago how resting is a form of worship and it rings true again here where the Psalmist says, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Knowing that God has the victory over WHATEVER you are facing in your life - gives true peace that will surpass all understanding.
