Showering Jonas — Our Baby Shower
Hi Everyone! We had our baby shower a few weeks ago on October 20, 2018 and couldn’t have had a better time spending the day celebrating our boy with our closest family and friends! Justin and I truly feel so blessed that we have such a strong knit unit surrounding us to be our village as we enter this new journey of parenthood. Literally, Jonas got such an outpour of love that it’s completely unreal– I can’t even begin to tell you all how overwhelmed we are just knowing that so many people are sharing their joy with us tenfold.
Of course, I am not the type to throw a super gaudy baby shower (though I think they are gorgeous in their own right). I wanted something that was super simple that was able to highlight all the love that was in the room that day. Look through these pictures to see all the awesomeness that was our baby shower!
Decorations
So like I said, it was important for me to keep it simple. And y’all – I have so much time on my hands being pregnant that I did quite a bit on my own to just keep me busy (I promise I am actually so bored dot com 78% of the time).
I took to Pinterest for a lot of my inspiration and then from there put my own little twist on all of the decorations and such. I pretty much gathered all the decorations and things that would be needed for the day of the shower and then my family (most of them don’t live locally which is the reason that I did leg work at all) put everything together the day of – and it was a dream!
Painted Mason Jars
For the painted mason jars, I literally went to Target and Michael’s to gather all of the tools necessary to complete them. I simply found a nice powder blue acrylic paint, some sponge paintbrushes, ribbon and decorative twine, mason jars, sanding paper, silk flowers and a glue gun.
I painted one layer on the Mason Jars and left them to dry for a few hours, came back and painted a second layer.
The next day, I sanded the jars to give off a weathered look. This took a little bit of time because it couldn’t really look calculated. I then, wrapped ribbon/twine or a combination of both around the necks of the jars to add a little extra décor to them (I used the glue gun to secure the ribbon/twine to the jars). I added flowers to many of the jars and then I also used the jars for straws and silverware.
Voila! We are done with this task.
Chalkboards
My cousin Taylor has the best penmanship in the history of penmanship so I asked her to write cute little sayings to chalkboards that were to be set throughout the shower. She just asked for chalkboards and chalkboard markers and then her blessed hands did all the writing (don’t ask me to do it or the lines would be crooked).
Guest Book – Painted Wooden J
I wanted something different than the traditional guest book that we are so used to seeing at special events. My sister Faith came up with the idea to get the wooden letter J’s and paint them navy (one of the colors for the color scheme of Jonas’s room) and have all of our guests write sweet notes to Jonas on them! It was such a cute idea and I know my son will cherish the notes as he grows up.
All Other Decorations
I got mostly EVERYTHING from Amazon. I ordered several types of balloons (these are my favorite: http://a.co/d/3Ve5DGE).From there, I just ordered confetti and baby shower decoration kits from Amazon and then other random finds from Party City that I truly don’t even remember.

Desserts
Let me tell you something, my guardian angel, Cassandra did her goodt research looking for the best cake designer in the city of Atlanta to fulfill my Pinterest wishes and make the cutest cake pops, cookies and most AMAZING cake ever! Mind you, a lot of times cake designers make cakes that are aesthetically pleasing, but not so good to taste. Cassandra found a cake designer by the name of Divine Treats, LLC based locally near Atlanta. When I tell y’all that what I got and what I asked for were identical; I tell NO story AND THEY WERE ALL SO GOOD! Justin and I had actually put a bunch of the cookies in the freezer and now there is only one left and we all know that I will be the one to eat that because “happy wife, happy life.” The owner Marcia, is the best ever – and she even delivered the desserts to the venue!
Games
I just wanted to include the games we played because I thought they were so cute and hilarious.
“My Water Broke!” – everyone received a cup with a little toy baby that was in a cube of ice. Whoever’s baby was completely out of the ice first won.
Who can sip juice out of a bottle quickest
All the men had to put a balloon in their shirts and try and tie their shoe (this was way easier for them than it is for me being PREGNANT)
Who said it: Mommy or Daddy?
Guess what the poop is – people had to guess what different chocolate bars were in the diaper (by sight or smell)
Hope you all enjoy the gallery of pictures and got a few tips on putting together a baby shower of your own!
Also, a million and one thanks to EVERYONE who helped make the shower the best ever! Mine and Justin’s parents, my sisters, Taylor, Summer, Taliah, Raquel, Chandler – I love y’all all to the moon and back and again!
X,
Joy
