How We Wonder What You Are
The moment I found out that I had fallen pregnant, I was so excited to learn the gender of our baby. I would tell Justin, “I hope that I’m having a little girl so that you can melt and she can steal your heart” – but it was almost as if that hope dimmed after my first time telling him that. For some reason, I just knew that I was going to be having a little boy.
I would catch myself referring to my little pea baby as ‘he’ all the time and everyone around me followed suit. Justin and I traveled to Greece to celebrate my twenty-fifth birthday and we decided to compare my symptoms to old wives’ tales of what the gender of the baby would be. Each question that I answered proved that I’d be having a sweet baby boy – except the one about a cantankerous attitude (Justin was convinced that my attitude was the combination of two women, haha).
We knew that we’d have to wait about three more weeks from the time we returned back to the states from across the pond to find out the gender of the baby. Although the world has been on this “gender reveal” trend, I found that I couldn’t wait to know the gender of my child – I’d told the doctor to let me know the gender as soon as my bloodwork was returned to her. Even at my 12 week ultrasound, I asked the doctor to guess the gender and he, along with the ultrasound technician, guessed that I’d be a boy mom.
The wait was finally over – I’d received a notification stating that there were test results on my patient portal and I ecstatically woke Justin up so that we could learn the gender of the baby together. OH, BOY! IT’S A BOY!!
We were so excited to be able to share the news with our family and friends, but there’s a catch – Justin’s parents asked that we have a small gathering to share the gender with them (in the form of a gender reveal, HA!) We got a cute football that was filled with blue smoke powder (we’re obsessed with football – Rise Up! Go Tigers! Go Dawgs!) – and Justin kicked it to announce the gender.
Our family was over the moon about the gender (pretty sure everyone would have been super happy either way) but everyone had just about guessed that we were having a boy anyway. Just to be able to have such a strong village surrounding us is one of the greatest feelings ever!!
We are so thrilled that we are having a baby boy! He’s extremely active already – I mean, my little belly is filled with what seems like constant movement and reminders that my little one is healthy and happy! We are over halfway through our pregnancy and so grateful to Jesus for His grace and mercy and allowing us to have such a healthy pregnancy with this tiny sized but ENORMOUS blessing!
